William "Bill" Joseph Whelan, 82, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.
He was born on January 22, 1942, in Stoutsville, Missouri, the son of Joe Whelan and Marie (Thomas) Whelan, who preceded him in death.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially morel mushroom hunting. Bill also enjoyed listening to old country music, watching the Royals and the Chiefs and Fox News. Bill especially loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
Bill is survived by a son, David Whelan (Lorna) of Sedalia; a daughter, Debbie Freeman (the late Ricky Freeman) of Centralia, MO; four siblings, Gene Whelan (Pat) of Columbia, MO, Dorothy Fleming of Hannibal, MO, Rita Rife of Sedalia, MO, Judy Mann (Phil) of Monroe City, MO; four grandchildren, Stephan Whelan (Miranda), Angela Freeman, Jordan Whelan (Rhoda), and Brandon Freeman (Jamie); and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Barbara Whelan, Bill was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ricky Freeman, and a brother-in-law, Jesse Fleming.
The family will hold a private celebration of life gathering for family at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
