Obituary For William Carl Hammerly
William Carl Hammerly, 85, of Sedalia, MO passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born on July 28, 1935 in Palatine, IL the son of Carl and Carmella (Fines) Hammerly, who preceded him in death.
On November 20, 1965 in Dallas, TX he was united in marriage to Linda Estill, who resides in the home.
Bill served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict. Bill had a huge heart, and never met a stranger. He would help anyone that needed something repaired, went out of his way to help others and made all of us smile. He loved to golf with his wife, participate in fundraisers for the Sedalia Shrine Club and Open Door. Bill especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. His energy and enthusiasm for life will never be forgotten by his many friends and family. We will carry on his zest for life and remember what a great man he was.
Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Billy Hammerly; two daughters, Jackie Woody (Kevin) and Shelly Gardner-Jacobi (Justin) all of Sedalia; one sister, Janet "Cookie" Carver; eight grandchildren, Ashley Woody, Josh Woody, Danielle Edwards, Drew Gardner, Lindsey Gardner, Ben Hammerly, Joe Hammerly and Kate Hammerly; three great grandchildren, Hayden Woody, Carson Woody and Lucas Gardner; a daughter-in-law, Emily Hammerly; many nieces and nephews including Terry Crawford and Tammy Bryan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Jim Hammerly; and two sisters, Dorothy Adams and Beverly Ballard.
A private family graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville with Rev. Jeremiah Greever officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Marine Corp. and the Sedalia VFW Post 2591.
