William Hurley Broaddus, 76, of Green Ridge, MO, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, at his home in Green Ridge. He was born on November 14, 1947, in San Antonio, Ft. Sam Houston, TX, the son of William W. Broaddus and Dorothy Mae (Boehm) Broaddus, who preceded him in death.
On December 1, 1989, in Green Ridge, MO, he was united in marriage to Leslie J. Harvey, who resides in the home.
Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force right after graduating high school. He served his country honorably from 1965 to 1986, retiring as a Master Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he worked as a Flight Simulator Trainer for the B-52/KC-135. After his military career, he served on the Sedalia Police Department for over 20 years. He retired as a Sergeant in 2009.
Bill was an avid Ham Radio operator (WD0BMG). He enjoyed fishing, the latest tech toys, and cooking his award-winning chili and peanut brittle. Bill was a Sedalia Granite Lodge #272 AF&AM and Sedalia Shrine Club member.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by a brother, Tom Broaddus (Linda) of Sedalia; a sister, Susan Malone (John) of Sedalia; three daughters, Barbara Poole (Terry) of Kansas City, MO, Brenda Powell (Matt) of Hughesville, MO, Sharee Broaddus of Coral Springs, FL; a son, Jay Welton of Green Ridge, MO; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Linda Reed, Julia Ray, and Joan Almaguer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, George Reed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Candace Fowler officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
The burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia, MO. The Whiteman Air Force Base honor guard will conduct full military honors, followed by a "Last Call" by the Sedalia Police Department.
Pallbearers will be Chad Broaddus, Dustin Broaddus, Mike Privitt, Derick Downs, Jay Welton, and Justin Ray.
Honorary bearers will be Dennis Hewitt, Floyd Hatfield, Jill Green, and Dave Woolery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tunnels to Tower or the Disabled American Veterans in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
