Obituary For William "Bill" Turns

William Earl Turns, 83, of Sedalia passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at his home. He was born on September 17, 1932 in Streator, Illinois son of Earl and Ada (Brown) Turns. who have preceded him in death. On April 7, 1957 in Streator, IL, he was united in marriage to Nancy Wilson, who survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, Todd N. Turns and his companion Linda Casey, and Bret A. Turns, all of Sedalia; and one grandchild of the heart, Tristan Barlow of Louisiana. Before graduating high school, Bill began working in the management program of J.C. Penney and left that company to manage Tempo Department Store in Thompson Hills, Sedalia in 1966. In 1969 he joined Zenith Distributing Corp. as a wholesale District Manager, retiring after 27 years with that company. He served his country honorably in the US Air Force, during the Korean War from 1952-1955. Recently Bill had the honor of joining the Honor Flight for retired veterans. He was a member of Wesley Methodist Church, Sedalia and served as Administrative Chairman, Financial Chairman and other helpful positions. He was also a member of Noonday Lions Club, American Red Cross Board, Sedalia Country Club where he was an avid golfer and enjoyed volunteering at Bothwell Regional Health Center and Meals on Wheels. Bills wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Rea Funeral Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Rev. Gary Smith will join the family at the chapel for a time of prayer, prior to family joining friends to Celebrate Bill's 83 years. Come share your memories with the family. Military Honors will be conducted at 6:00 pm, to honor Bills service to our country. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions be made to the church of your choice and/or charity of your choice.
