Walter Dean Poynter, 69, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born on June 12, 1955, in Sedalia, the son of Roy Thomas Poynter and Laura Lucille (Laxson) Poynter, who preceded him in death.
On June 5, 1981, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Sandra Wansing, who resides in the home.
Dean was a 1974 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. He worked from the time he was 16 in the automotive industry. Dean worked for David Malmo Motors in Sedalia for over 30 years as a parts salesman. Dean was an avid coin collector. He also enjoyed woodworking in his workshop in the garage. Dean especially enjoyed being involved with his children's sports activities. He coached his children's Little League baseball teams.
In addition to his wife, Dean is survived by three children, Randy Wansing (Candace) of St. Peters, MO, Laura Poynter of Independence, MO, Thomas Poynter of Sedalia; four grandchildren, Ariel, Jessica, Elliot, and Leah; a brother, Roy Poynter of Sedalia; and a sister, Linda Bickel of Sedalia.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Rev. Eddie Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
The honorary bearer will be John White.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
