Obituary For Traver Smith Sr.

Traver Ureese Smith Sr., 46, of La Monte, MO passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, at his home. He was born on January 23, 1975 in Sedalia, MO the son of Enos Johnson Jr. and Devat Smith.

Survivors include his stepfather Terry Johnson-Joyner of Memphis TN; six children, Traver U. Smith, Jr. of Sedalia, Travon Smith,of Sedalia, Tristen Smith of La Monte, Tiona Smith, of Memphis, TN, Takaia Smith, of Memphis, TN, and Theodore Smith, of Sedalia, MO; four grandchildren, Tre'Veon, Ty'Rese, Dare'ona, and Kydrix; four brothers,Jeffrey Byrd, of Minneapolis, MN, Kevin Smith, of Memphis, TN, Enos Johnson (Naima-Ra), III of Frisco, TX, and Micah Clark of Sedalia, MO; two sisters,Adrienne Johnson, of Columbia, MO and A'ndria Morehead Branch (Gary) of Midwest City, OK; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Smith and Tyshawn Smith; two brothers, Bruce Johnson, Sr., and Maurice Carmichael; and a sister, Sherri Clark.

Traver enjoyed cooking and was known for telling memorable stories. A conversation with Traver would usually start with him saying, “I remember when.” He had an act of just bringing joy to people through laughter. He often reminisced about his childhood in Memphis, TN, and how he was the originator who brought RAP to Sedalia. Traver loved listening to music, especially Three 6 Mafia, as well as writing and performing songs of his own. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs Fans, but anyone who knew Traver knew his love for his basketball hero the Human Highlight Film Dominique Wilkins. Mr. Smith loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his kids, and spoiling his grandkids.

Traver will be dearly missed, but will live in our hearts and minds forever.

Memorial Celebration will be held at 3:00pm Friday, July 2, 2021, at Burn Chapel, 207 E Pettis St, Sedalia, MO 65301. Honorary bearers will be Earl Scroggins, Kardell Sims, Marshall Sims, Anthony Wilson, Sherwin Marshall, Bruce Johnson, Jr., and Tremayne Claxton. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
