Thomas D Calder, 83, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Fair View Nursing Home in Sedalia. He was born on May 4, 1935 in Ravenna, NE, a son of Noral D and Marion Lorene (Peterson) Calder, who preceded him in death.
Tom graduated from Lincoln, Nebraska High School, where he was a member of the state championship gymnastic team his senior year. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1964. Tom joined the U.S. Navy in 1955 as a Hospital Corpsman stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bremerton, WA, and on the USS Helena and USS Preston. At the Naval Hospital he met his wife Maurine from New Hampshire. They were married at the US Naval Chapel, Bremerton, WA on September 6, 1957. They moved to Sedalia in January 1975. He joined Broadway Presbyterian Church in 1975 where he served as an Elder for three terms. Tom was an agent for the Shelter Insurance office on S. Limit for 38 years, retiring in 2016. He joined Rotary in 1975 where he was an active member for 40 years. He served as President of the Sedalia Rotary Club, District Governor of District 6080 and on various committees in the District. He was a member of National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors for over 35 years. He served on the boards of the Salvation Army for 25 plus years, CASA for 20 plus years, Sedalia Country Club, and Boy Scouts of America.
Tom was an avid golfer (3 holes in 1), an enthusiastic Nebraska football team follower, and fan of the Royals and Chiefs. He and Maurine traveled extensively by automobile covering all 50 states and nine Canadian Providences and flew to Hawaii. With Rotary, they went to England, Scotland, and Argentina.
He is survived by his wife, Maurine of 60 years; three sons, Bradford D Calder and wife Deborah of Millersburg, MO, Scott D Calder and wife Deborah of Sedalia, and Alex D Calder and wife Linda of Lee's Summit; a daughter, Michelle Calder - Drum of Sedalia; four grandchildren, AshLee Calder of Lee's Summit, Meghan Drum of Castle Rock, CO, Kio Drum of Kansas City, MO, and Zachary Calder of Lee's Summit; three great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Miller; and Twin brother, Michael Calder.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Douglas officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral chapel.
Please wear bright colored clothes to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sedalia Rotary Club, Salvation Army, or Crossroads Hospice in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
Tom was a man who genuinely enjoyed his faith, family, friends, work, activities, and his life!
