Sylvan Ray Demand, 89, of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Smithton, MO, peacefully passed away at his home on September 30, 2024. Born on September 3, 1935, in rural Smithton, MO, he was the beloved son of Roderic and Bessie (Momberg) Demand, who preceded him in death.

Sylvan’s remarkable journey began with his education at Ringen Elementary School, culminating in his graduation from Smithton High School in 1953. Shortly after, he joined the Air Force, where he served honorably as an Air Police officer, with deployments in Cambodia and Vietnam. Notably, Sylvan had the distinguished honor of serving as an Honor Guard for President Nixon and Queen Elizabeth II. He also acted as a sky marshal during the hijacking crisis, earning numerous commendation medals throughout his service.

In 1965, Sylvan married Karen Batt. Their union lasted until her passing in April 2007. Following his military career, he settled in San Antonio, where he transitioned into private security until his second retirement. He married Alma Atkins on July 3, 2010, in Las Vegas, NV.

Sylvan is survived by his wife Alma; a brother, Gail Demand (Sue) of Smithton, MO; a sister, Linda Ryan (Pat) of Camdenton, MO; as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.
