Obituary For Shirley Kohn

Shirley Louise Kohn of Green Ridge, Missouri went to her eternal home in heaven peacefully in her sleep at 5:40am on March 11th, 2014 at 90 years of age. She was born in Joliet, Illinois, the daughter of Olaf B. and Louise Wilamena Eichelkraut Olson, who preceded her in death, as did her brothers: Ralph M. and William O. Olson.

On September 23, 1956 she accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized at Concord Christian Church, Sigsbee, Mo. She was currently a member of Parkview Christian Church, Sedalia, Mo.

On January 12th, 1946 she married Lester A. Kohn, who preceded her in death on February 21st, 1986. They made their home on their farm in rural Bethel, Mo. Her children include Lynda L. Steele of Columbia, SC, Frederick O. Kohn, of Bethel, Charles L. (Mary) Kohn, of Bethel, Karen (Gale) Culler of Green Ridge, Mo, Edward (Sharon), of Bethel and Marlene (Elzia) Turpin, of Streator, IL.

She was blessed with 38 grandchildren. Six preceded her in death: Edward M. Turpin, Willam C. Turpin, Troy C. Culler, Edward M. Kohn, James M. Steele & Curtis D. Brockman. She had 40 great grandchildren, one of which is already home with Jesus, Nattalie Grace Weber. She was also great-great-grandma to 7. In addition, she was Grandma to all of the Show-Me Christian Youth Home children since 1986.

Shirley graduated from Ottawa High School in Ottawa , IL and had one year of business college. She was a full time wife and homemaker throughout her 40 year marriage. She worked as an office employee and for Owen’s Glass prior to her marriage Following her husband’s death, she made her home with her daughter, Karen and son-in-law, Gale Culler, where she was actively involved in the Show-Me Christian Youth Home ministry, assisting in a variety of capacities.

Following her retirement she enjoyed her family, reading and listening to gospel music. Her favorite TV shows were the Walton’s & Little House on the Prairie. She also enjoyed the cooking channel. Her culinary skills were always an extra special blessing to her loved ones.

Local services will be held at the Parkview Christian Church, Sedalia with Rodney Brown officiating and Alan Morse assisting. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 13th between 6:00PM & 8:00 PM at the church and on Friday, March 14th from 9:00AM until times of services at 10:00AM.

Services will be at the Bethel Christian Church at 4:00PM on Friday, March 14th with a 3:00PM Visitation. Jeff Blaine will be officiating, assisted by Jerry Kaser & Michael Brands. Burial will follow at the Bethel Zion Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, Mo.

Pall Bearers will be Tim Kohn, Terry Kohn, Terence Culler, T.J. Culler, Brian Brockman, Troy Brockman, Jacob Crawford, Jeff Weber.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Show-Me Christian Youth Home, La Monte, Mo; Parkview Christian Church, Sedalia, Mo; La Monte Christian Church, La Monte, Mo or Bethel Christian Church, Bethel, Mo.
