Obituary For Shirley Anne Guinn

Shirley Anne Guinn (nee) Baldwin, a gentle spirit with a fierce determination and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, lived a blessed, Christian life for 90 plus years. She was born August 6, 1931, in Neodesha, Kansas the youngest daughter to Benjamin and Elsie Baldwin. She died November 30, 2021, in Sedalia, Missouri at the home of her daughter.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021 at Bethany Baptist Church 500 N. Park Avenue, Sedalia, Missouri with Pastor Craig Bowen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Longwood Cemetery, in Ponca City Oklahoma. Shirley grew up outside of Neodesha Kansas and graduated from Neodesha High School in 1949. Upon graduation, she moved to Ponca City and worked at the hospital in the Medical Records department. In September 1949 Shirley was introduced to her future husband, Bob Guinn. They were married at the First Baptist Church in Bentonville, Arkansas on September 29, 1950. Bob and Shirley made their first home on South 6th street until moving to a farm 4 miles west of Kaw City in 1951. They moved back to Ponca City in 1957 and then built a home 5 miles west of town in 1964. They were married for 64 years until Bob passed in 2014. At that time, Shirley moved to Sedalia Missouri to live with her daughter. Shirley, while living in Ponca City, was a member of Ranch Drive Baptist Church; upon moving to Sedalia she joined Bethany Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Elsie Baldwin, an infant brother Dale and her sister Bonnie.

In 1960, Mom was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and her future was very uncertain. However, for over 60 years she accepted, lived with, battled, but never complained of her affliction; she was the toughest and best example of never giving up nor giving in. For most of those 60 years she had full mobility and often spoke to support groups or individuals about living with this insidious disease. As such, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Shirley Guinn is survived by her 3 children, son Jay (Susan) of Riverview, FL, daughters Janet (Mark Tapp) of Murphy, TX and Joanie (Craig Bowen) of Sedalia, MO. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Andrea Morris, Errin Sieling, Bethany Wefuan, Robert Guinn, Sarah Conrad, Hannah Quarles, Nathan Bowen, Josiah Bowen and was so proud to have 15 great-grandchildren: Asher, Brodie, Finley, Haddon, Rebecca and Hudson Conrad, Simeon and Anya Wefuan, Gage Morris, Ethan, Quinn, and Dylan Sieling, Judah and Benjamin Bowen and Oliver Guinn. Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel in Sedalia Missouri.
