Obituary For Sharon Kay Neas

Sharon Kay Neas passed away peacefully at 9:51 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Fairview Nursing Home in Sedalia, MO. She was born in Dr. Gus Salley’s clinic in Warsaw, MO, on July 1, 1946, the daughter of Glen and Betty (Balke) Kirby.

She grew up in southern Benton County and graduated from Warsaw High School in 1964.

On June 3, 1967, she married Harold Guy Neas at the Warsaw Christian Church. They made their home in Warsaw for the first few years of their lives together, later moving to the Sedalia area. They were blessed with one child, Jeffrey Brian.

Kay worked her early years at Newman’s grocery store in Warsaw before moving to Sedalia, where she worked at Swift Manufacturing. She later worked at Rest Haven nursing home in Sedalia before ending her working career at Brooking Park as a CNA.

Coming from a hunting & fishing family, during deer season, if Kay weren’t out in the woods, she would be found sitting at the kitchen table at the farm processing the deer with her mother. She also loved to put a fishing line in the water any chance she got.

Kay loved her flowers. Any time you visited her, you had to walk around her yard to see them. She was also quite talented and loved making artificial floral and decorative arrangements. Later, even from her bedside, she could tell you what flowers and trees were where and what was blooming at that moment. Once she was more homebound, she was known to light up the phone lines. Kay loved to talk on the phone to anyone and everyone.

Kay’s pride and joy were her grandchildren. She loved to spoil them and watch them grow. She especially loved when they would stop by and bring their dogs for her to love on.

Kay was preceded in death by her brother, Rick, and father, Glen, in 1993, and her mother, Betty, in 2021.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harold; her son, Jeff, and his wife, Yvette Neas of Cole Camp; her grandchildren, Dalton (Kay) Neas of Independence, Leslie (Paige) Neas of Centralia, and Sydney (Kieron) Neas of Smithton. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Lois White, Shirley (Rick) Dunshee, and Mona Kirby; various nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; cousins, and other family and friends… And we can’t forget her dog, Bruiser, and her pet rooster, Inky.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Parkview Christian Church, with Pastor Rodney Brown officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Honorary bearers will be Dalton Neas, Leslie Neas, Sydney Neas, and Sue Schlotzhauer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
