Obituary For Samuel Owen Russell

Samuel Owen Russell, 94, of Warrensburg passed away March 22, 2016 at Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. He was born on March 09, 1922 at Hooper, Colorado the son of Clarence Roy Russell and Ida Swindler who preceded him in death.

On June 26, 1947, in LaMonte, Missouri he was united in marriage to Ruth Elaine Price who survives of the home.

Mr. Russell was a member of the LaMonte Christian Church and has served as an elder and secretary and treasurer of the church board. He was a 1940 graduate of LaMonte High School. Mr. Russell served his country honorably in the US Navy during WW II. He was a Navy carrier based torpedo bomber pilot and was assigned to torpedo squadrons, VT-51 West Coast, VT-100 Hawaii, and VT-89 Pacific, aboard aircraft carrier CV-36, USS Antietam. He flew at the Olatha Naval Air Station in the Ready Reserves from 1946 to 1950. He was the past commander of LaMonte American Legion Post 520. He retired as a civil service employee at Whitman Air Force Base in 1980. He served as secretary to LaMonte, school board and as Deputy District Governor of the LaMonte Lions club.

He is survived by a son, Larry G. Russell(Dean) of Sedalia, Missouri, a sister Betty Michael (Robert) of Odessa, Missouri two grandsons, Bradley Russell (Nickie) and Jeremy Russell (Elaine), two step grandsons, Sean and Paul Siron, one step granddaughter, Holly Beard and three great- granddaughters and one great-grandson, seven step great-granddaughters. .

Mr. Russell was preceded in death by two brothers, Karl Russell and Don Russell and a sister, Helen Jones.

A celebration of life gathering of friends and family will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Rea Funeral Chapel with graveside services and burial following at LaMonte Cemetery, with the Rev. Gene Smith officiating. . Memorial contributions may be made to Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, Missouri.
