Sammy George Mehan, 77, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Lutheran Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Concordia, MO. He was born on May 29, 1946, in Domino, Greece, the son of George Mehan and Pauline (Tegtmeyer) Mehan, who preceded him in death.
On September 5, 1992, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Margaret Diane VanNatta, who resides in the home.
Sammy was a proud graduate of La Monte School in 1966. He dedicated 56 years of his life to the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Sedalia, and was a respected member of the Sedalia Granite Lodge #272 AF&AM, and Scottish Rite, Valley of Kansas City. Sammy's work at Hayes Wheels for ten years and his 25-year tenure as a school bus driver at La Monte School were testaments to his strong work ethic. He also managed a successful cattle and row crops business.
Sammy's joy was found in the simple pleasures of life. He relished in playing cards and exploring new places through his travels. His sociable nature was evident in his love for visiting with friends and family, a trait that endeared him to all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Sammy is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Linda and Terry VanNatta, sister-in-law, Janice VanNatta, many nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Sammy was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Mehan.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Alan Morse officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel.
The burial will be at Blackburn Cemetery, Blackburn, MO.
Honorary bearers will be Randy Hudson, John Yoder, Bob Wheeler, Daniel Hughes, Tim Taylor, and Dennis Hudson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel United Church of Christ, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Shriner's Children's Hospital.
Arrangements are in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
