Obituary For Roy Eugene Kabler

Roy Eugene Kabler, 92, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born on October 7, 1931, in Sedalia, the son of Frank M. Kabler and Alma (Shull) Kabler, who preceded him in death.

On July 17, 1971, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Wilcox Smith, who resides in the home. From this union, they raised two children, Michael and Vicky Smith.

Roy served his country honorably in the United States Army from July 24, 1952, until June 23, 1954, during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and Sedalia American Legion Post #16. He also worked for Sedalia Neon and Sedalia School District #200. He retired in 1998.

He loved working in his yard, spending time with his family, and hanging out at Hardee's, drinking coffee with his group of friends.

In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by a daughter, Vicky Riley (Tim) of Sedalia; three grandchildren, Melissa Viebrock, Lindsay Ream (Mark), and Josh Riley; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Smith.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, Connie Sue (Shoemaker) Kabler, Roy was preceded in death by three siblings, Joe Kabler, Betty Sublett, and Donald Lee Kabler; a son, Michael Smith, and a grandson, Kevin Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Broadway Baptist Church, with Dr. Nicholas Gray officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.

The burial will be at Highland Sacred Gardens, Sedalia, MO, with full military honors conducted by the Sedalia VFW Post #2591 and the United States Army.

Pallbearers will be Tim Riley, Josh Riley, Mark Ream, Joe Forsee, Kevin Staus, and Allen Sublett.

Honorary bearers will be George Bradford and James Jackson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadway Baptist Church in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
