R. Scott Ridgeway, 61, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born on October 6, 1963, in Anaheim, CA, the son of Delbert R. Ridgeway, who preceded him in death, and Dorothy J (Stout) Heyer, who resides in Concordia, MO.
On August 14, 2016, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to R. Christopher Southers, who resides in the home.
Scott was a proud graduate of the Smith-Cotton High School Class of 1983. He attended State Fair Community College from 1983 to 1984. Scott began his career as a chef at Maxine's Restaurant and worked at Marriott Hotels in Kansas City, MO, Brooking Park, and the Community Action Agency. He ultimately found his true passion at Walmart in Sedalia.
Scott enjoyed the companionship of his pets, which included dogs, cats, and fish. He loved watching movies and NASCAR, and he was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. Above all, Scott cherished cooking and spending quality time with family and friends.
In addition to his husband and mother, Scott is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Ridgeway; a brother, Brett Ridgeway (Robin); two sisters, Linda Russell (Andy) and Lisa Dunn (Marvin); four step-sisters, Jennine Brandt-Weis (Tom), Justine Neinhiser (Steve), Samantha Ullman (John), and Andrea Ridgeway (Eric); 35 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and nephews; and the mother of his daughter, Elaine Horn.
In addition to his father, Scott was preceded in death by his step-father, John Heyer, his step-mother, June Ridgeway, and a nephew, Andy Gill.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Pastor Aaron Roberts officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
The burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO, at a later date.
Honorary bearers will be Jesse Russell, Justin Russell, Bobby Potter, Jack Jones, Caleb Jones, and Doug Mullins.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
