Robert "Bob" Hoskins, 87, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021, at his home. He was born on October 29, 1933, in Kansas City, MO a son of Frank E. Hoskins and Luella B. (Hayes) Hoskins, who preceded him in death.
On January 21, 1955, in Honolulu, HI he was united in marriage to Virginia Clare Garvey, who resides in the home.
Mr. Hoskins was a State Farm Insurance agent for over 33 years, first in Brunswick, Mo, and then Sedalia, retiring in 1993. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Hospital Corpsman from 1953 to 1957. Mr. Hoskins was a long-time member of the Sedalia Rotary, serving as president in 1982-83. He was a staunch supporter of State Fair Community College from its inception in 1968, where he was president of the Booster Club in 1974. He was recognized as the first Booster Club member to have held continuous membership for 40 years and was the first non-athlete to be inducted into the SFCC Athletics Hall of Fame. He was elected to the Board of Trustees from 1988 to 2006, serving as president in 2002. He was a 54-year member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dale, Kenneth, Charles, Bill; and sisters Marguerite and Luzella.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Glen (Debbie), Hughesville; Brian (Sadyia), Washington, D.C.; Mark (Kerrie), Kansas City; Keith, Columbia; Moira Healy (Dave), Kansas City; Kelly (Amy), Omaha, NE; and Margaret Ward (Larry), Sedalia; as well as 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Mem, Sandra, Donna, and Bonnie and a great many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish St. Patrick Chapel with Father David Veit officiating.
A Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. with visitation to follow until service time at St. Patrick Chapel.
Burial will be held at a later date at St. Michael's Cemetery, Brookfield, MO with Rev. Mr. Dave Healy officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to State Fair Community College Men's Basketball Booster Program or Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Fredrickson, the wonderful nurses and caregivers on 2SW at BRHC, and Crossroads Hospice.
