Robert Dale "R.D." Harlan Jr., 64, of La Monte, MO, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at his home in La Monte. He was born on December 21, 1960, in Marshall, MO, the son of Robert Dale "Bob" Harlan Sr., who preceded him in death, and Mary C. (Hayes) Harlan, who resides in Green Ridge, MO.
On July 22, 1989, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Teresa "Terri" Durian, who resides in the home.
R.D. was a 1979 graduate of Green Ridge High School. After high school, he worked as a Diesel Mechanic, then as a Sweep Technician for CC TV Cable, and later as a Maintenance Supervisor with Precision Wood in La Monte, MO, before finally settling as the Farm Manager for McMullin Farms in La Monte, MO.
R.D. was a man of many passions. He enjoyed fly fishing, tractor pulls, rodeos, and bar-b-que/ cooking competitions. His love for these activities was only surpassed by his love for his family. He was a constant source of support for his children, nieces, and nephew in their activities growing up. But most of all, he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren on the farm, where he was truly in his element.
R.D.'s love for his family was unwavering. He is survived by his loving wife, Terri, and his mother, Mary. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his two children, Sage Harlan (Kim) of Greenfield Center, NY, and Montana Clark (Tommy) of Junction City, KS; five cherished grandchildren, Arianna, Jayce, Tenley, Koehn, and Eleanor; a sister, Debra Katherine Spiess of South Bend, IN; eight nieces, Kaitlin, Emma, and Isabelle Spiess, Kourtney and Ada Tucker, Triniti Durian, Mckenzie and Brooklyn Mitchel; and two nephews, Remington Homan (Bri) and Bradley Durian; one uncle, Richard Harlan (Carolyn) and one aunt, Avanell Savage (Gerald).
In addition to his dad, R.D. was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gary Spiess; two uncles, Larry Harlan and Sonny Hayes; and two aunts, Lynda McMullin and Loretta Robb.
A celebration of life gathering with family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Green Ridge Community Center, Green Ridge, MO.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pettis County 4-H in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
