Robert Dale "Bob" Harlan, 83, of Green Ridge passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018 at his home. He was born on September 24, 1935 in Otterville, MO, the son of J. G. and Juanita (Scrivner) Harlan, who preceded him in death.
On December 19, 1959, at the Range Line Presbyterian Church in Houstonia, MO, he was united in marriage to Mary C. Hayes, who resides in the home.
A graduate of Smithton High School, Bob worked as a retail meat cutter at Bing’s in Sedalia and at Safeway in Sedalia and other locations. He retired in 1991 to a farm outside Green Ridge and enjoyed many years of working on the farm and also selling produce and plants at the Farmer’s Market in Sedalia. He and Mary made numerous life-long friends during thirty-two years of going once or twice a year on fishing trips to Dead Lake in Dent, Minnesota. Other than fishing, one of his great joys in life was playing the part of Santa for children and adults in local communities, making visits to hospitals and nursing homes to help spread Christmas cheer to those in need.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by a son, R.D. Harlan (Terri) of LaMonte and a daughter, Debra Katherine Spiess (Gary) of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, Sage Harlan (Kim), Montana (Tommy) Clark, and Kaitlin, Emma, and Isabelle Spiess; two great grandchildren, Arianna and Jayce Clark; a brother, Richard Harlan (Carolyn) of Overland Park, KS; two sisters, Lynda McMullin (Daryl) of Smithton, and Avanell Savage (Gerald) of Bella Vista, AR.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Harlan (Nancy) of Roy, UT.
A celebration of life service will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Green Ridge Community Center in Green Ridge, Missouri.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
