Rickey (Rick) Lynn Smith

Rickey (Rick) Lynn Smith, 66, of Belton passed away Friday, June 28, 2019, at his home in Belton, MO. He was born on September 5, 1952, in Sedalia, MO, the son of Harlan R. Smith and Geraldine Yvonne (Abney) Smith.

Rick held degrees from William Jewell College and UMKC. He retired from the Social Security Administration as a Senior Counselor. He was a member of East Sedalia Baptist Church where he played the piano and organ in his younger years. He also had the honor of playing for weddings and funerals. He took pride in having the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood. Rick had a love for all things classical: cars, music, and movies.

In addition to his mother, Gerry Sumners of Sedalia, he is survived by a sister, Connie L. Edwards (Robin Sandbothe) of Gladstone, MO; a niece, Erin Edwards (Tracey) of Crosby, TX; a nephew, Daniel Edwards of Cameron, MO; a step-brother, Jeff Sumners (Josie) of Bay City, TX; and an aunt, Audrey Abney of Higginsville, MO.

In addition to his father, Harlan Smith, he was preceded in death by a step-father, Jesse L. (Jake) Sumners.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Burial will be at Highland Sacred Gardens, Sedalia, MO.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Edwards, Steve Abney, Larry Kreisel, Kevin Sanders, Marshall Abney, Don Dexter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice.
