Obituary For Richard Griffith

Richard D. Griffith, 76, of Sedalia, MO passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at his home. He was born on January 2, 1945 in Sedalia, the son of Othel I. Griffith and Sara W. (Baxter) Griffith, who preceded him in death.

On June 27, 1963 in Columbia, MO he was united in marriage to Serena E. Brown, who resides in the home.

Richard was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a devoted husband and father. He worked as a feed mill operator for Cargill Nutrena Feeds in Smithton for over forty years, retiring in 2008. Richard served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Smithton Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed wood working, welding, hunting, fishing, and going on scenic drives across the country with his wife. Richard especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Pam Bird (Richard) of Sedalia and Ron Griffith (Bonnie) of Lincoln, MO; a sister, De Laine Upton (George) of Higginsville, MO; four grandchildren, Greg Bird, Jennifer Griffith, Tim Bird, and Alex Griffith; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Allen LeRoy Griffith; two sisters, Joyce Allcorn and Carol Gerardy.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Rea Funeral Chapel with Pastor Don Satterwhite officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Burial will be at Smithton Cemetery, Smithton, MO.

Pallbearers will be Greg Bird, Tim Bird, Alex Griffith, Chuck Allcorn, Kerris Upton, and Chris Gerardy.

Honorary bearers will be Jennifer Griffith, Dr. Donald Allcorn, and Scott Schreck.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
