Richard Geigar Bird, 74, of Clifton City, MO passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his home. He was born on March 16, 1943 in Horton, KS the son of Geigar Henry and Beatrice Young (Fletcher) Bird, who preceded him in death.
On June 10, 1962 he was united in marriage to Florence Arnold, who survives of the home.
Richard was a graduate of the Otterville High School and worked for the Tallman Company for over 50 years. He served as the President of the Clifton City Fire Department, which he helped found. The fire department was very important to him and he did everything he could to support it. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Celebration Center, Sedalia. He enjoyed meeting for breakfast every Tuesday morning with his best friend, Don (Wilma) Hicks.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his three sons, Rick (Pamela) Bird, Steven (Lisa) Bird, and Stanley Bird; his twin sister, Ella C. Williams of Clifton City; six grandchildren, Matthew Hatfield (who he raised as his own), Kiel Miller, Tyler Miller, Crystal (Robert) Roland, Gregory (Caitlin) Bird and Tim (Katlyn) Bird; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Woodson "Woody" Bird.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Rea Funeral Chapel in Sedalia, with Rev. Jim Downing officiating.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Rea Funeral Chapel.
A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Clifton City Fire Department in care of the funeral chapel.
