Ralph Louis Moriarty, 83, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. He was born on March 18, 1941, in Sedalia, the son of Thomas Michael Moriarty and Agnes L. (Velten) Moriarty, who preceded him in death.
Ralph grew up on the family farm south of Sedalia and attended Sacred Heart School, graduating in 1959. He began his career as an electrician working with local contractors before enrolling in the apprenticeship program for Local Union 124 in Kansas City. He remained a proud, working member for 43 years. Ralph also served his country honorably in the Missouri Army National Guard.
On November 6, 1965, Ralph married the love of his life, Peggy D. Paxson, in Sedalia. Introduced by a mutual friend, the two quickly formed a bond that led to nearly 59 years of devoted marriage. Peggy survives him in their home.
Ralph had a deep passion for classic cars and was a proud member of both the WCMVAC and Mid-America Street Rods Car Club. He and his family shared countless memories attending car shows together. His prize possession was his all original 1950 Ford Convertible that he bought from his brother Pat when he was eighteen. He was also a dedicated member of the Sedalia Elks Lodge BPOE #125. Beyond his love for classic cars, Ralph enjoyed tending his garden, particularly his prized tomatoes, and took great pride in keeping his lawn meticulously maintained.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife Peggy; three children, Kent Moriarty of Lee's Summit, MO, Desiree Pettigrew of Sedalia, MO, and Justin Moriarty (Beth) of Grain Valley, MO; two brothers, Pat Moriarty (Shirley) of Sedalia and David Moriarty of Warrensburg, MO; his twin sister, Rose Stewart (Jim) of Longmont, CO; eight grandchildren, a great-grandson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Robert Ament, as well as three nieces and a nephew.
After his son Justin donated him a kidney, Ralph was blessed with another fifteen years of life. Ralph will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his kindness, and his quiet sense of humor. His special bond with his loved ones was evident to all who knew him. Rest well, beloved husband, father, and Papa.
A celebration of Ralph's life will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on January 31, 2025, at Rea Funeral Chapel.
