Obituary For Norma Petersen

Norma Frances Brodersen Petersen, age 94, of Otterville, Mo., passed away at the Tipton Oaks Nursing Home, Tipton, Mo. on December 17, 2015. Norma was born September 8, 1921, to Harry and Bethel (Leeper) Brodersen.

Norma was a graduate of Otterville High School and received her nursing degree in Murray, Ky., where she met her future husband, Arthur “Pete” Petersen. She moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she worked as an industrial nurse for Pratt-Whitney. Later, she worked as a cardiologist’s office nurse in Loma Linda, Calif. She also worked briefly in the nursery at Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia, Mo., before starting her own family.

Norma was an active member of the Sedalia Seventh-day Adventist Church. She held many church-affiliated jobs through the years. Her most notable positions included her playing the organ and piano and being the church treasurer for more than 45 years. She loved crossword puzzles, sewing, singing and shopping.

Norma is survived by a son, Dale (Frances) Petersen of Gretna, Va. and a daughter, Sandra (Kent) Juhl of Smithton, Mo., three grandchildren, Jodi (Jennifer) Petersen of Metaline, Wash., Kimberly (Eric) White of Choctaw, Okla. and Karrie (Jeff) Meyers of Wichita, Kan. She has five great-grandchildren, two step-granddaughters and five step-great-grandchildren.

Proceeding her in death are her husband, Arthur, her parents and her sister, Esther Falk.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Rea Funeral Chapel, 1001 S. Limit Ave., Sedalia, Mo. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Pastor Albert Oetman will be officiating. Burial will be at the Highland Sacred Gardens, Sedalia.

We extend a special thank you to the staff at Tipton Oak Manor, where Norma resided for 2½ years, and a special thank you to our friend, Cher Caudel.

The family is requesting memorials to the Sedalia Seventh-day Adventist Church (29525 Hwy 50, Sedalia, Mo.) or Tipton Oak Manor (601 W. Morgan St., Tipton, Mo.).
