Norma Jean Gilpin, 95, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at E.W. Thompson Residence Center, Sedalia. She was born on November 9, 1927, in Sedalia, the daughter of Cleo Thompson Bell and Maggie (Sands) Bell, who preceded her in death.
On January 29, 1976, she was united in marriage to Joe Gilpin, who preceded her in death on November 3, 2002.
Norma was a member of Emmett Avenue Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She worked for Inter-State Studios for several years. Norma volunteered along with her sister Cleo at the Children's Therapy Center when it first opened. She enjoyed going to her great-grandchildren's sporting events. Norma also enjoyed going on vacations with her son and his wife, John, and Marsha.
Survivors include her children, John Urton and his wife Marsha of Sedalia, Joe Gilpin and his wife Penny of Sedalia, Susan Gilpin of Sedalia, Brenda Huff and her husband Jim of St. Charles, and Bettie Jo Christmann and her husband Paul of Valdosta, GA; eight grandchildren, Shata, Cassie, Cara, Rosemary, Jolene, Anna, Casey, and Chasity; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a brother Charlie Bell and his wife Jean of Sedalia.
In addition to her husband and parents, Norma was preceded in death by a daughter, Andi Cusick; three sisters, Cleo McCune, Daisy Stratton, and Margaret Wells.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2022, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor John Barrett officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
The burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Younger Layton, Brody Kindle, Brandon Kindle, Eli Kindle, Jacob Kearney, and Lucas Kearney.
