Obituary For Nina Frances Hanning
Nina Frances Ragar Brown Hanning, age 104, of Sedalia, passed away May 19, 2023, at Primrose in Sedalia. She was born February 3, 1919, in the Elk Fork community, daughter of Garland H. Ragar and Minnie Mosley Ragar.
She was a lifelong resident of Pettis County and attended Bethel Country School, then moved to Owsley where she attended the Eldorado Country School before moving to Green Ridge where she continued her education, graduating from Green Ridge High School in 1937. She was a member of the Green Ridge Presbyterian Church and The Order of the Eastern Star.
She married Emory Elvis Brown on March 9,1937, and they had two children, Nina Joyce and Larry Elvis Brown. Emory preceded her in death on January 20, 1960. She married Charlie Hanning on March 28, 1964. He preceded her on June 14, 1996.
Nina worked at Swift & Co., Interstate Studio & Publishing Co. and she and Charlie, owned and operated Cities Service Bulk Gas Co., Hanco Oil Co. and several local gas stations.
She is survived by her son, Larry E. Brown and his wife Shirley, grandchildren, Richard Brown, Robyne Brown, Kelley McCann and her husband, Chris, and Julie Brown and her husband, Micah Rowden, great-grandchildren, Richard, Lake, Jacob, Nicole, Chaney, Taylor, Olivia, and Joe, 5 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by step-son, Rick Hanning and his wife, Nancy, step-daughter-in-law, Carol Hanning, 11 step-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren, and numerous step-great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and 2 cousins.
In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Lake and her husband Ron in a plane crash in 2000, her stepsons, Larry Hanning and Jeff Hanning, her brothers, twins Roy Ragar and Royal (Barney) Ragar.
At Nina's request there will be a graveside service and burial at the Green Ridge Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, with Rev. John Streit officiating.
The family suggests contributions to Green Ridge Alumni Brown Scholarship Fund or to a charity of the donors choice in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
