Obituary For Nilda Eugenia Ramirez

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Nilda Eugenia Ramirez, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on May 26, 2023, at the age of 92. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born in Cuba (Colon), Nilda and her husband, Humberto, escaped communist Cuba in 1968 so that their family could have opportunity and freedom in the United States. After arriving in the United States, Nilda worked three jobs to support her family. Nilda was an incredible seamstress, working many years for Younkers in Lincoln, Nebraska, and as a freelance seamstress. Humberto passed away in 1999, and Nilda continued to work and enjoy time with her family and trips with her children and grandchildren.
Nilda served the Catholic church through mission trips and service to the Sister Servants of the Holy Spirit of Perpetual Adoration (Pink Sisters) in Lincoln, Nebraska. She retired from Younkers in 2000 and later relocated to College Station, Texas, with her daughter Maria. She later moved to Kansas and then Florida. Recently, she was living in assisted living in Missouri.

Nilda was the beloved mother of Humberto (Toni), Jesus, and Maria Schmahl, and the loving grandmother of Rachael (Javier) Silva, Heather Colbert, Zachary (Jonny) Schmahl, Nicholas, Chandler, Brighton, and Casi, and the blessed great-grandmother of Javi, Caleb, Luke, Mya, Jacob, Emily, Christian, and Noah. She was predeceased by her husband Humberto, parents Petronila and Hermogenes Sanchez, cherished daughter-in-law Elizabeth Ramirez Lemon, loving son-in-law Jeffrey Schmahl, and her sisters and brothers.
She lived a full life as a wonderful mother, grandmother, dedicated employee, and devout Christian. She will be remembered for her effervescent personality, fun-loving sense of humor, and playful mischievousness. She loved to garden and sew anything and everything for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She made all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren quilts to be cherished always. She was a great joy to be around and had many friends all over the country. Everyone loved Nilda and always remembered spending time with her. Most of all, she loved her family and friends and instilled good values in her children and grandchildren that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. We are comforted by knowing that she is in Heaven waiting for us to one day be there with her.
