Nelson William "Bud" Hinken, 96, of Sedalia passed away Wednesday August 31, 2016 at Katy Manor Nursing Home in Pilot Grove, MO. He was born on August 6, 1920 in Sedalia, MO the son of Willie E. and Esther E. (Ditzfeld) Hinken, who preceded him in death.
On May 2, 1948, in Beaman, MO, he was united in marriage to Virginia Lee Glenn, who preceded him in death on February 2, 2009.
Bud served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. He was co-owner operator of Hinken service station in Sedalia for 30 plus years. After he sold his business, he worked at the National Guard Armory in Sedalia for 30 years. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and lived all of his life in Sedalia.
Survivors include a son, Dale Hinken of Sedalia; a sister, Dean Smith of Seattle, WA; two grandchildren, Jaimie Kurtz-Prowse and Mike Kurtz; and three great grandchildren.
Besides his wife Virginia, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Kurtz; two brothers, Cord Hinken and Billy Hinken; and three sisters, Ruby Hayes, Bernice McGee, and Martha Sevier.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 11:00 a..m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia, with Rev. Dan Hankins officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Missouri Army National Guard and VFW Post #2591.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday September 5, 2016 at Rea Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers will be members of the Missouri Army National Guard, Sedalia.
Honorary bearers will be Joe Young, Fred Smith, Jack Hayes, Terry Barnett, Angie Hutsell and Carey Schehl.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund.
