Obituary For Nancy McDowell

Nancy McDowell, 80, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022, at her home. On July 24, 1941, she was born in Smithton, MO, the daughter of Homer Russell Homan and Thelma (Silvers) Homan, who preceded her in death.

On December 31, 1959, in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to William Joseph McDowell, who resides in the home.

Nancy was born and raised in Smithton and a 1959 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. She was a dance instructor in the Smithton and Sedalia area for many years. In addition, she choreographed many high school and community theater productions. Nancy retained her real estate license and worked as a Real Estate agent for many years. She worked as the Director of the Sedalia Liberty Center and retired from there after eleven years. She was a member of the Missouri Arts Council. One of Nancy's greatest joys was her beloved dogs.

Along with her husband, Nancy is survived by four children, Laurie Naylor of Kansas City, Heidi Schwartz of Sedalia, Kelly Sims of Columbia, and William Joseph McDowell, II of Sedalia; twelve grandchildren, Hilary, Casey, Brady, Glen, Josh, Holli, Zachary, Michael, Cassie, Taylor, Torry, and Trey; fourteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a sister, Jan Parenteau; and a grandson, Casey Allred.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Minister Tremayne Umbles officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

The burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia.

Honorary bearers will be Myrna Ragar, Beverly Rice, Arlene Rouchka, John Kelly, Grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hayden Liberty Center in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
