Obituary For Michael Gene Thoennes

Michael Gene Thoennes, 67, of Cole Camp, MO, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born on July 16, 1956, in Denver, CO, the son of Marvin John Thoennes and Norma Jean (Coleman) Thoennes, who preceded him in death.

On September 18, 1976, in Kansas City, MO, he was united in marriage to Susan Faye Neathery, who resides in the home.

They made a home in Empire, Colorado, where Mike worked as a mechanic for Henderson Mine and Kaiser Construction in Summit County, building ski resorts. Once relocating to Missouri several years later, he became a master tradesman and owned his own construction business before moving on to work for Lafarge Aggregates as a Plant Foreman, where he nearly retired. After years away from the mountains, Mike lived out his dream of moving home to Colorado, where he worked for his cousin Gregg Thoennes' service station in Idaho Springs, Colorado. There, he did maintenance work and moonlit as a sandwich technician at DBLB Industries. Upon full retirement, Mike and Susan moved back to Missouri to live close to their children and grandchildren. His retirement years were filled with helping anyone with anything, a deep enthusiasm for lighting (a lamp connoisseur, if you will), a passion for snacks, camping, and racetracks.

In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his children, Crystal Thoennes (Kelly Brown), Timothy Thoennes (Kristy Kestner), and LeAnn Sanders (Steve Sanders); his grandchildren, Austin, Brandon, Dylan, Kevin, Nathanial, Bostyn, Breanna, Chevelle, Kynlee, Soren, and Lennox; great-grandchildren, Keatyn, Austyn, Declan, Coltyn, and one on the way; his siblings, Brenda Baldridge (Donald Baldridge), Debra Neathery (Ray Neathery), and James Thoennes (Pam Hall).

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Uncle Al and Aunt Shirley Thoennes, and Godfather Dewey Thoennes.

A private celebration of Mike's life will be announced by the family at a later date.
