Melinda "Rusty" Joy Eckles

February 11, 1952 — October 12, 2024

Melinda "Rusty" Eckles, 72, of Sedalia, MO, lovingly embraced by her family, passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2024. Born on February 11, 1952, in Sedalia, she was the cherished daughter of Barney and Jean Taylor, who welcomed her into the heavens.

Rusty was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Carl "Shorty" Eckles, on August 18, 1973, at Sacred Heart Church in Sedalia. Their enduring love story was a testament to their commitment and joy in each other's company.

A proud graduate of Sacred Heart School, Rusty spent her early career as a waitress at the State Fair Restaurant, where her warm smile and kind heart made her a favorite among patrons. She later joined Print Lynx, where she worked seasonally until her well-deserved retirement.

Rusty had a passion for life that shone through in everything she did. She adored dancing, participated in field trials, and cherished moments with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. A devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, she found joy in her faith and community. Cooking and crocheting were her creative outlets, with baby blankets made especially for her loved ones being a hallmark of her generosity. Her favorite place was the family-run Big Bear Pumpkin Patch, where laughter and memories flourished.

In addition to her loving husband, Shorty, Rusty is survived by her children: Jake and Sherri Eckles, Zeb and Amber Eckles, and Abe and Addison Eckles; and her precious grandchildren, Abiner, Averlie, and Arden Eckles. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Sandy and Don Evans, Rocky Smith, Tina and Jim Foy, and Bobby and Howard Simon; her sister-in-law, Karen and Glenn Powell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her warmth and kindness.

A memorial service to celebrate Rusty's life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with Chaplain Ariell Simon officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Rusty's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her. Arrangements are entrusted to Rea Funeral Chapel.
