Obituary For Mary Lou Matz

Mary Lou Matz, 70, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Sylvia G. Thompson Care Center, Sedalia, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 4, 1947 in Wabasha, MN, the daughter of Orville Wehrs, who preceded her in death, and Deloris (Thendens) Wehrs, who resides in Elgin, MN.

On May 6, 1967 in Elgin, MN she was united in marriage to Charles "Chuck" Richard Matz, who resides of the home.

Mary was a 1965 graduate of Elgin High School, Elgin, MN. In the fall of 1965, she met the love of her life on a dance floor in Rochester, MN. She worked as a secretary at several different jobs including, Tom Calder Shelter Insurance, Lou Harris Edward Jones, and for Inter-State Studios as a proof reader. All through her working years, she was the secretary for Chuck at Matz Sales Company Farm and Industrial Equipment. Mary was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bothwell Regional Heath Center Auxiliary and volunteered in the gift shop. Mary was an avid Bridge card player and was well known with a number of Bridge groups in Sedalia. Mary enjoyed potted flower gardening and making the outside of her home look beautiful in the spring. Another of her favorite hobbies was her oil painting artwork that she would show at the Missouri State Fair. She especially loved going to all of her kids and grandkids numerous activities.

Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband Chuck going on cruises, traveling across the country, going to Hawaii and most recently, in the last few of years, going on family vacations with her kids and grandkids to both Disney Parks in California and Florida and going to Seaside, FL for number of years, going to Branson.

In addition to her husband Chuck, she is survived by two sons, Scott Matz (Melissa) and Craig Matz (Sheri), all of Sedalia; seven grandchildren, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Andrew, Caroline, Destiny, Amanda, and Alex; three great grandchildren, Reighlyn, Rozzlyne, and Dawson; two brothers, Ron Wehrs of Ft. Meyers, FL and John Wehrs of Elgin, MN; and two sisters, Carol Austin of Rochester, MN and Bonnie Wimmer of Lake City, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sedalia with Pastor Andrew Tessone officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 until service time at the church.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Matz, Alex Matz, Miguel Chaves, Troy Wimmer, Dustin Wehrs, and Rod Haworth.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Luther Church Radio Ministry.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
