Obituary For Mary J. Herndon

Mary J. Herndon, 83, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb 11, 2023, at Loving Arms Memory Home in Sedalia. Mary was born May 28, 1939, to Harry L. and Luanna Keith McCann in Cincinnati, OH.

At the age of two, her mother passed away, and she was then adopted and raised by her great Uncle & Aunt, Samuel & Ruth Keith. She was a 1957 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. In 1958 she married Wendell W. McKee, and they had five children, Mary R. Mullins, Mitchell B. McKee, Mark “Andy” McKee, Patrick K. McKee, and Wendell Joseph McKee, who died in infancy.

In 1974 Mary married David Bernard Herndon. With this marriage, she gained three bonus children, Joy D. Wolfe, Sharon L. Lewis, and David Herndon.

Mary worked at ADCO Inc in Sedalia for over 40 years retiring in 2007. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved baseball and coached her daughter & sons when they were young. As a teen, she worked as a lifeguard. Her love for the water was shared with her children, as she made sure they could swim at a very young age.

Mary loved spending time with all her grandchildren, attending all their sporting events and school activities, and taking them on mini vacations.

She is survived by her children, Mary R. Mullins (Melvin), Mark “Andy” McKee (Linda Holland), Patrick McKee (Ed Gleason), Joy D. Wolfe, Sharon L. Lewis, and David Herndon (Amanda); 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David B. Herndon, son Mitchell McKee, grandson Brandon McKee, son in infancy Wendell Joseph McKee, and a great-grandson DeAndre.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Visitation will be one hour prior at the church.

Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Austin Mullins, Jackson Mullins, Brian Dick, Paul McKee, Jordan McKee and Kaleb Reason.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sedalia Animal Shelter or Sedalia Traveling Youth Baseball Fund.
