Obituary For Marjorie A. Newkirk

Marjorie A. Newkirk, 90, of Marshall passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at The Living Center in Marshall, MO. She was born on November 30, 1930 in Huron, SD the daughter of Ernest Kobes and Marjorie (Pierce) Kobes, who preceded her in death.

On June 1, 1958 in Rapid City, SD she was united in marriage to Duane Newkirk, who resides in Sedalia.

Marjorie raised her family including three children on Rimrock Highway in Rapid City, SD. In her early years she enjoyed playing the organ at Big Bend Presbyterian Church. Marjorie enjoyed crocheting in her early years making blankets for family members.

After her and her husbands retirement they decided to become "Snow Birds" in Sun City West, AZ. Living there for 28 years before moving to Sedalia to be near their daughter Diane. In November of 2019, Marjorie and Duane moved into Cedarhurst Assisted Living, in Sedalia. In December of 2020, due to failing health, Marjorie moved to the Living Center in Marshall, MO.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her twin daughters, Donna (Glen) Strausser of Surprise, AZ and Diane Wilbern of La Monte, MO; a son, Ken (Donna) Newkirk of Loveland, CO; five grandchildren, Stacy (Cody), Megan (Al), Jeremy (Alison), Matthew, and Aurora; five great grandchildren, Alexis (Miguel), Albert, Isabella, Lindsay, and Molly, and two great great grandchildren, Noah and Amiya; and several nieces and nephews.

After Marjorie's passing, her nurse noticed a red Cardinal perched on a wooden fence outside her room. This signifies that Marjorie is watching over her family while they grieve her loss.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Roger Kobes.

In keeping with Marjorie's wishes there will be no public services planned. The family will gather for a private memorial service at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
