Marcella Kay Summers, 71, of Hollister, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025, in Creve Coeur, Missouri.
She was born at home in Coffey, Missouri on June 10, 1953, the first child of James William Carroll and Betty June (Gardner) Carroll.
Her early years were spent in Coffey, MO. and Pattonsburg, MO. She started school in Coffey and graduated from Coffey High School in 1971.
In 1969, she met Richard Neil Summers who would become her husband on March 20, 1971. Upon marriage they established their home in Bethany, MO, where Richard began working for the Bethany Skelgas Services.
During this season of life Richard and Marcella started a family. Marcella became the proud mother of 3 children. Shawn, born in October 1971, Richelle, born in October 1974, and Daniel, born in August 1983.
In 1988, Richard and Marcella moved to Macon, MO. During this time, Marcella began a career at U.S. Bank as a bank teller. In 2008, Richard and Marcella moved from Macon, MO to Sedalia, MO. Marcella continued employment with the U.S. Bank there until March of 2019, when she retired. Marcella was a talented artist and enjoyed lots of creative outlets including creating award-winning Valentine's Day boxes for her children, painting, sketching, ceramics and becoming the family historian with many neatly organized photographs.
Marcella's faith was the center of her life. Soon after they were married, Richard and Marcella joined the First Baptist Church in Bethany, MO and with each subsequent move, they were always deeply involved in church life. Marcella was the church librarian for many years and led Mission Friends as well.
After retirement Richard & Marcella left the cold winters of MO behind and headed south. They settled in Lindale, TX in June of 2019. After Richard's untimely death in 2020, Marcella relocated once again to Hollister, MO in October 2022. She looked most forward to seeing the beautiful fall color in the Missouri Ozarks from her condo on Lake Taneycomo. During much of her two year fight with cancer, she lived in the St. Louis, Missouri area with her son, Shawn.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, on June 18, 2020; her father, J.W. Carroll, April 7, 1991; her mother, Betty June Carroll, May 2, 2018; mother-in-law, Opal, June 4, 2012; father-in-law William, Sept. 6, 2012; brother-in-law Billy Joe, July 4, 2015.
Surviving are her loving children and grandchildren, Shawn and wife Cheryl and granddaughters Claire, and Ella of Ballwin, MO. Daughter Richelle and husband Ronnie Howell, grandsons Harrison Howell of Greenville, TX and Philip Howell of Lindale, TX and grand-daughters Piper Reid of Lindale, TX and Mary Katherine Howell of Telluride, CO; Daniel and wife Melissa, and grandsons Nathaniel, Adrien, and Wesley of Bartlesville, OK. Brother, Paul Carroll and wife Della of Gallatin, MO, Brother, Phillip Carroll and wife Angela, Branson West, MO. In addition, she is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews each of whom she loved dearly.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Rea Funeral Home, Sedalia, MO.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Rea Funeral Home, Sedalia, MO, with Pastor Scott Presley of Freedom Fellowship in Branson, officiating.
Interment will be at 12:00 p.m., Monday, February 3, 2025, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO where she will be laid to rest with the love of her life, Richard Summers.
