Obituary For Lynn D. Middleton

Lynn D. Middleton, 70, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at his home after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was born on December 17, 1953, in Jefferson, IA, the son of Dwight V. Middleton and Betty L. (Wilcox) Middleton, who preceded him in death.

He attended grade school in Jefferson and graduated from Sac City High School in 1972. Lynn was an avid athlete who loved many sports, including basketball, track, baseball, and football. He attended the University of South Dakota on a football scholarship.

On September 12, 1975, he married Cathy Schroeder at Saint Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt, IA. They were married for 48 years and created a beautiful family and life together. They were blessed with three wonderful sons, Jeff, David, and Kyle.

Lynn worked at Middleton Sandblasting and Painting with his father until 1981. He then began his 20-year logistics career with Payless Cashways. After his time with Payless, he worked for Garden Ridge, Advance Auto Parts, and Ag Solutions until his retirement in 2018. Not one to sit still, he mowed lawns and loved visiting with neighbors and friends. Lynn was always eager to help others or give advice, whether needed or not.

Lynn continued his love of sports by coaching his son's baseball teams and attending his grandkids' activities. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends and spending several winters in Florida. Family time was centered around playing cards, golfing, pool volleyball, kickball, and telling his favorite stories. Lynn's passions included his love of the Raiders, the music of the '60s, and the wheeling and dealing of his (many) cars.

Lynn was a loving, giving man who put God first in his life. He was an active member of St. Vincent De Paul Parish, where he served as an eucharistic minister. He also proudly served as a board member of the West Country Club Homeowners Association for 11 years.

Left to treasure his memories, wife Cathy; sons Jeff (Emily) of Montgomery, TX, David (Staci) and Kyle (Mariah) both of Sedalia, MO. Lynn was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Karen, Lilee, Nicol, Turner, Lou, Ford, Lark, Boston, Bryson, Silas, Clayton, and Finley; brothers, Bill (DeLois), John (Glenda); mother-in-law, Mary Schroeder; sisters-in-law: Linda Bush, Donna Schroeder, Diane Schroeder, Marg (Rick) Powers, Lisa Drost; and brother-in-law, Richard (Melody) Schroeder.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister Carolyn Rubendall; father-in-law Clayton Schroeder; brothers-in-law: Warren Bush, John Schroeder, Tom Schroeder and Rod Drost.

You will be deeply missed by family and many dear friends, but your love will forever live in our hearts.
