Lorene Schumaker

November 29, 1932 — April 8, 2025

Lorene Schumaker, 92, of Dresden, MO, passed away while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at her home. She was born on November 29, 1932, in Koshkonong, MO, the daughter of Lawrence Thompson and Lola (Hunsperger) Thompson, who preceded her in death.

On September 11, 1954, in Sedalia, MO, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, John Frederick Schumaker, who resides in the home.

Lorene was a proud graduate of the Missouri State School for the Deaf in Fulton, MO, Class of 1953. During her time at the school, she was actively involved in sports, excelling in volleyball, softball, and archery. While in school, she also gained valuable skills in home economics. After graduation, she worked briefly at Inter-State Studios before spending several years at Rival Manufacturing Company, where she remained until she lost her eyesight.

Lorene was a devoted member of both the State Fair Chapter of the Deaf and the Missouri Chapter of the Deaf. She had a deep love for country music, dancing, cooking, and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was traveling across the country with her family - visiting nearly all 50 states and collecting postcards along the way.

In addition to her husband, Lorene is survived by three children, Jeanette Davis (Sam), Randy Schumaker, and Keith Schumaker (Tonya) all of Sedalia; seven grandchildren, Christy Schumaker, Brandy Schumaker, Jessica Wheeler, Lynette Schumaker, Lance Wheeler, Ashley Schumaker, and Anthony Schumaker; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
