Karl Alan Persinger ("Kap"), age 71, of Sedalia, Missouri, took his final lap on February 28, 2025, crossing life's checkered flag at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 25, 1954, in Marshall, Missouri, to Harvey and Norma Persinger, who preceded him in death, Kap lived life in the fast lane with a heart full of passion, a garage full of memories, and a sketchbook filled with art.
On November 4, 1978, Kap married Mary Lou Thompson of Sedalia, and together they built a legacy fueled by love and adventure. They raised two sons, Justin and Travis Persinger, who shared his love for cars and family traditions.
Kap's true home was under the hood of a classic car or gathered with friends at a cruise night. He had a knack for turning wrenches, an even greater gift for telling stories, and a natural talent for art. He loved drawing anything car-related, capturing the sleek lines of classic cars and the raw energy of hot rods on paper.
With an enthusiastic personality, Kap could bring any room to life with his stories of youth spent racing, wrenching, and cruising classic cars. His tales were as colorful as his sketches, blending nostalgia with humor and a love for adventure.
He spent countless hours in his garage, surrounded by carburetors and chrome, tinkering on old cars and teaching his sons and grandchildren the art of a good tune-up. His garage was not just a workspace but a sanctuary filled with stories, laughter, and the occasional stubborn bolt.
In his later years, Kap shifted gears and focused on his family. He treasured time spent with his sons, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. His storytelling grew even richer, his wisdom deeper, and his heart fuller.
Kap is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Persinger, of the home; his sons, Justin Persinger (Michelle) and Travis Persinger (Mandy); his grandchildren, Joshua Persinger (Ava) and Hayden Persinger; and his great-granddaughter, Caroline Persinger. He also leaves behind his siblings, Debra Rumsey (Dan), Brenda Arnold (Greg), Terri Hartley (Kevin), and Tammy Persinger, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jose Martinez officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Honorary pallbearers include Richard Schlobohm, Russell McNish, Dean White, Dan Rumsey, Donald Thompson, and Roy Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions toward funeral expenses or simply honor Kap's memory by turning a wrench, sharing a car story, or taking a ride with the windows down and the radio up.
Kap's journey may have reached the finish line, but his legacy will rumble on like a well-tuned engine. His family and friends will forever hear the echoes of his laughter and feel the warmth of his stories, knowing he has taken that final victory lap.
As the checkered flag waves, may you rest in peace, Kap, cruising through the clouds, windows down, engine roaring-forever on the road to your next great adventure.
