Karin Gene Hoon, 73, of Sedalia, Missouri joined her parents in heaven on Thursday, January 5, 2017. Karin, the first of three daughters, was born on May 10, 1943 in Montevideo, MN to Eugene and Erma Burandt Gunther. She grew up in St. Paul, MN where she graduated from high school. In 1965, she graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN with a Bachelor of Science for Registered Nurse. After college, Karin served her country in the Army from Dec. 1964 to Jan. 1967. She worked in a hospital at Ft. Carson, CO and then in Japan during the Vietnam War which earned her the title of Vietnam Veteran. After the military, Karin worked for a short time at a hospital in St. Paul, MN. Afterward, she decided to tour Europe which brought her to a job at a military hospital in Landstuhl, West Germany. In December 1969 while working in Germany, Karin met her future husband, Valentine Hoon. They were married on February 18, 1970. In 1974, they moved to Leesville, LA and Karin worked at Ft. Polk Hospital for a few months. Afterward, Val and Karin's four children were lucky enough to have Karin as a stay-at-home mom. In 1982, Val, Karin and their two youngest children moved to Sedalia, MO. With the kids growing up, Karin dedicated 21 years at Bothwell Regional Health Center, where she took great pride working on the Stress Unit. Karin was an active member of Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church and the Georgetown Community. Despite her off filing system, she could always be counted on to keep loved ones connected through her system of calendars, cards and folders. She is survived by her husband Val of 46 years of the home; son, Nicky V. (Celia) Hoon of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter, Maria (Kevin and daughter, Allie) Alexander of Monroe, LA; daughter, Dianne (Chris and children, Jennifer, Jacob and Matthew Ford) Heidemann of Camino, CA; a son, Charles E. (daughter, Stephaney) Hoon of Sedalia, MO; sister, Marcia (Greg and son Nathan) Coon of St. Paul, MN; sister, Susan (Tim and sons, Todd and Mark Szuch) Lester of Jacksonville, FL. There is also a host of additional family and friends who will miss Karin dearly. Karin is preceded in death by her parents. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church, 3201 SW Blvd, Sedalia, MO; Rev. Carl Gauck will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital or American Lung Association in care of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia. A private burial will be held at The Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.
