Live-Stream call in number is 1-508-924-2499

Joy Virginia Widel, 95, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. She was born on November 7, 1927, at the old Widel home place near Blackwater, MO, the daughter of AR Widel and Kathryn V. (Boulware) Widel, who preceded her in death.

After her schooling, she worked in Boonville for a short while, then moved to Columbia and worked for Stephens College Travel Department. In May of 1955, she felt the call to give her life in the ministry of the faith Jesus taught when He lived and walked on the earth, recorded in the New Testament and which she had whole heartily embraced several years before. Joy greatly appreciated the privilege of 55 years in the ministry in Missouri, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas and returned to Missouri to be near her frail aged Mother. Because of health, Joy was unable to continue to be active in the ministry. She moved to Redbud Canyon Assisted Living near Guthrie, OK, in May 2011. She lived there for ten years and greatly enjoyed Bible Studies, sewing, gardening, flowers, and other activities there. Joy moved back to be with her brother in Boonville, MO. Most recently, she moved to Sedalia and resided at Sylvia Thompson Residence Center.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Mildred Widel, of Sedalia and Barbara Widel, of Boonville, MO; nephews, Ron Widel, of Ozark, MO, Randy Widel (Nancy) of Boonville, Jim Widel (Tina) of Indianapolis, IN, Dennis Widel (Marcia) of Washington, AR, and Roger Widel, of Nelson, MO; nieces, Renita Silvers (Ron) of Sedalia, Sandra Schibi (Rick) of Sedalia, Beverly Arth of Boonville, MO, and Elizabeth Widel, of Blackwater, MO; many great nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Raymond and Clarence Widel, nephew Bob Widel, great niece Olivia Widel, and great-great nephew Elijah Sitton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Craig Winquist, George Peterson, and Bertha Magsam officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Burial will be at the Old Lamine Cemetery, Blackwater, MO.
