Joseph Allen Cochran, 68, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on June 30, 2023, at his home in Sedalia. He was born on February 21, 1955, in Aberdeen, MD, the son of Charles and Maxine Ivory (Mays) Cochran and Robert Stapleton, who preceded him in death.
On January 21, 1978, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Amanda Irene Cochran, who preceded him in death on June 20, 2020.
Joseph graduated from Rittman High School in Rittman, OH, in 1972. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1975 and was honorably discharged as a specialist in 1984. He retired from Owens Corning in 2015. He helped with the burial detail with the VFW Post #2591 as their commander. He was a member of the American Legion Post #642 color guard and took them to Nationals several times and won twice. Joseph was a member of the 40 & 8 and one of the leaders of the Boy Scout Troop #61, serving as an Assistant Scout Master and helped with their color guard. He earned one of the highest levels of leadership training for adults in the council, the Wood Badge and Beads. He enjoyed fishing, watching older movies, barbequing, and telling jokes.
Joseph is survived by three children, Sharon Duncan of Sedalia, Joseph Cochran, II (Kristen) of Sedalia, and Rachel (Ryan Gilio) Stoner of Smithton; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Cochran of Indianapolis, IN.
In addition to his wife and parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Cochran.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with Cliff McBride officiating.
Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO, with military honors by VFW Post #2591.
Pallbearers will be Joe Cochran, II, Joshua Stevenson, Noah Cochran, Eric Hibbs, Ryan Gilio, and Colton Kiso.
Honorary bearers will be Rowan Stoner, Tayler Cochran, Azure Cochran, Hagen Cochran, Emery Cochran, Hayley Duncan, Kaidyn Duncan, Rachel Stoner, Isaiah Cochran, and Pyper Gilio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
