Obituary For John Simms

John Edward Simms, 66, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia. He was born on January 5, 1948 in Sedalia, a son of John Washington and Viola (Frazier) Simms.

John loved to play pool and he was very good at it. He also enjoyed playing cards and dominos. He worked at Newbill & Sons Roofing for 20+ years until he retired. John served his country honorably in the United States Navy through the Vietnam War. He was a member of Four Square Gospel Church, Sedalia.

He is survived by eleven children, Indis Anderson of Pensacola, FL, Tony Anderson of Pensacola, FL, Shannon Potts of Sedalia, Conyus Newbill of Sedalia, Cameron Bassett of Montgomery, AL, Kimberly Barnes (Perry) of Warner Robbins, GA, Viola Staten (Michael) of Sedalia, Trish Ballance (Chris) of Sedalia, Marshall Sims of Sedalia, Veronica Sims of Sedalia, and Kardell Sims of Sedalia; two sisters, Katherine Kent of Hillside, NJ, and Almeda Taylor of Sedalia; and one brother, Bobby Simms (Sinda) of Sedalia.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Eddie Mae Moody Cole; and four brothers, Marshall Sims, Bert Moody, Sr., Earl Wayne Simms, and Lincoln Moody, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with Pastor Joyce Foster officiating.

Visitation will be at the chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 24, 2014.

Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, at a later date.

Pallbearers will be Earl Scroggins, Darwin Potts, Rodney Scroggins, Jeffrey Taylor, Lionel Williams, Dominic Taylor, Kevin Jefferson, and Eddie Scroggins.

Honorary bearers will be Paul Buckner, Gary Jackson, Charles Cason, Larry Cole, Floyd Fulcher, Tom Cline, Rickey Christian, Cye Casey, Joe Cochran, and Allen Curd.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the family in care of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
