Obituary For John Roy Hicks

John Roy Hicks Jr., 73, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022, at his home. On August 16, 1948, he was born in Sedalia, the son of John Roy Hicks Sr. and Ethel Lorene (Fuller) Hicks, who preceded him in death.

In 1972, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Patsy Lee Dawson, who passed away on July 21, 2003. On May 4, 2007, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Kay Wehmeyer, who resides in the home.

John graduated from Smith-Cotton High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. He worked for Alcan Cable as a machine operator for 33 years, retiring in 2011. John enjoyed being outdoors, working in the garden. He loved to travel and especially loved spending time with family and friends.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Shelley Hicks of Smithton; a son, John Roy Hicks, III of Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren, Daegan, Kash, Silas, and Kalahia; a stepson, David Wehmeyer (Mary Ann) of Sedalia; two step-granddaughters, Kassie and Tiffany; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Fry of Warsaw and Veneta Bailey (Larry) of Green Ridge; a brother, Robert Hicks of Sedalia; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Rusty Thomas officiating.

Burial will be at Highland Sacred Gardens, Sedalia.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Klein, Wes Dunkin, Kevin Perkins, Brian Dickerson, Larry Bailey, and Adam Bailey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Lewman and Harrison Mobley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
