John R. Hockaday, 71, of Sedalia, MO passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 20, 1949 in Sedalia, the son of William Thomas Augustus Hockaday and Edith Beryl (Young) Hockaday, who preceded him in death.
On December 12, 1974 in Miami, OK he was united in marriage to Pamela L. Venable, who resides in the home.
John lived in Otterville, MO until the 3rd grade when his family moved to Sedalia. During his teenage and early adult years he traveled and played music with his brother Tommy. In 1974 he married Pam Venable and shortly after started a family. He began working at Pittsburgh Corning Fiberglass and continued there for 30+ years until eventually retiring in 2007. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, sister, children and grandchildren. He loved fishing, boating, story-telling and listening to bluegrass music. He never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it and loved serving the Lord.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sonya Fogle of Columbia, MO and Angela Oswald of Lee's Summit, MO; a sister, Shirley Laramie of Sedalia, MO; five grandchildren, Grant, Gabe and Genna Fogle of Columbia, MO and Landon and Julia Oswald of Lee’s Summit, MO, several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Kent, William (Billy), James (Jimmy) and Thomas (Tommy) Hockaday; three sisters, Donna Richardson, Mary Tucker and Katie Milledge.
A Celebration of Life gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel. .
