Obituary For John Ellis Pope

John Ellis Pope, 75, of Sedalia passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at his home. He was born on July 24, 1946 in Lincoln, MO the son of John Pope and Lucile (Lewis) Pope, who preceded him in death. On May 15, 1981 in Sedalia, MO he was united in marriage to Constance (Kindle) Johnson, who resides in the home. John worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad as a Track Foreman and Inspector. John graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964. He later attended the school of real estate and worked part time at Curry Realty. He loved going to auctions, cars, lunches with his classmates of 64. He loved time with the grandchildren providing them "wheels" at early ages and a place to fish. He shared his testimony of being saved at Clear Creek church and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012. He received guidance and care through Crossroads Hospice. He and his wife joked with the nurses calling Lois, John's nurse and Tonya, Connie's nurse. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Scott Pope (Krystal) of Sedalia and Brian Johnson (Chryssy) of Bulverde, TX; two daughters, Teresa Tylar of Green Ridge and Amanda Zimmerman of Sedalia; eleven grandchildren, Chris Pope, Cory Pope, Jon Pope, Ann Pope, Josh Tylar, Jacob Tylar, Treyton Johnson, Bryttney Porter, Brody Wojnarowski, Dylan Wojnarowski, and Eleanora Lilly; eight great-grandchildren, Aubrey Pope, Bella Pope, Leia Pope, Ayden Pope, Jade Pope, Addysen Pope, Rosalie Pope, and Azreal Pope; a sister, Judy Brown (Bennie) of Lincoln; and a brother-in-law, Bill Ruckman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Jonetta Ruckman. A graveside service and burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2021 at Clear Creek Cemetery, Lincoln, MO with Rev. Jason Kindle officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to Clear Creek Church or Bethlehem Baptist Church. Family extends a special thank you to Lois and Tonya with Crossroads Hospice, Jason and the "kitchen" ladies at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Brad Rea, and our family and friends for their support throughout these years. Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
