To everything there is a season… A time to every purpose under heaven.., Ecclesiastes 3:1
Janice G. Merk, 74, of Sedalia, MO, passed away January 18, 2023, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO. She was born on September 25, 1948 in Memphis, TN, the daughter of J. C. Gilmer, who preceded her in death and Clara Louise (Joyner) Gilmer, who resides in Collierville, TN. On September 16, 1966, she was united in marriage to Ted E. Davis who preceded her in death. On June 11, 1992 in Smithton, MO, she was united in marriage to Donald R. Merk, who resides in the home. She was the first to say prayers and give hugs. She was the glue that held everything together. She was our everything, our rock. Always had the answers you needed to hear. She will forever be missed for her late night texts, her heart emojis, her wisdom and love for us. It isn't surprising that one of the last things she said was that when our time came, she would be waiting for us at Heaven's Gate, taking our hand and walking us over. Along with her mother, Janice is survived by a daughter, Shannon Hagedorn (Travis) of Sedalia; two step daughters, Tracy Rohan (Chris) of Wauconda, IL and Jodie Hurt (Doug) of Kansas City, KS; a sister, Marcia Hall (Shawn) of Horn Lake, MS; a brother, Mike Gilmer (Denese) of Collierville, TN; five grandchildren, Samantha, Zack, Brittany (Tyler), Kaylee, and Braedyn; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, Janice was preceded in death by a son, Treg Davis, and a brother, Larry Gilmer. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
