James Robert Wilson

July 1, 1934 — March 29, 2025

James Robert Wilson, 90, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at his home. He was born on July 1, 1934, in Sedalia, the son of Harry A. "Doc" Wilson and Sylvia C. (McCutchen) Wilson, who preceded him in death.

On September 3, 1960, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Hausen, who resides in the home.

Jim was born and raised on the family farm just outside of Sedalia, where he spent his entire life. A graduate of Smith-Cotton High School, class of 1953, he went on to work as the Maintenance Supervisor at Pittsburgh Corning, dedicating 42 years to the company.

As an only child, Jim always wanted a large family of his own, and he and his wife of 64 years were blessed with seven children. He had a talent for building and loved working with his hands, creating forts, swings, zip lines, and rocking horses for his kids and grandkids to enjoy. His passion extended to classic American hot rods, and he took great pride in building them-his favorite being a 1940 Ford Coupe, which he outfitted with a 1958 Corvette engine.

Jim was a natural prankster who loved a good laugh, especially when it was a true "knee-slapper." He truly cherished time spent with family, particularly when it involved sharing a homemade pie.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by seven children, Becky Wagenknecht (Mark) of Sedalia, Mary Thomas-Black (Steve) of Sedalia, Bob Wilson (Lori) of Springfield, MO, Dan Wilson (Kari) of Poinciana, FL, Tim Wilson of Shawnee, KS, Molly Yarber (Kyle) of Sedalia, and Katy Mullins (Doug) of Sedalia; 13 grandchildren, Molly, Emma, Steven, Chase, Adam, Kyle, Gregory, Amanda, Ashley, Kristan, Abby, Sarah, and Sadie; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by three grandsons, Jonathan Wilson, Jacob Wilson, and Clay Wagenknecht.

The family will hold a celebration of life service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 22150 Smelser Road, Hughesville, MO, with Pastor Rusty Smith officiating.
