James Mitchell Gregory, 83, of Sedalia, MO, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. He was born on December 21, 1940, in Sedalia, the son of James R Gregory and Ruth (Benware) Gregory, who preceded him in death.
On July 10, 1978, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Jeanie Shaw, who resides in the home.
Jim was a 1959 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. After high school, he followed in the electrical industry in his father's footsteps. Jim attended an electrician trade school in Kansas City. Jim served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was drafted in 1965 and honorably discharged in 1968. He was attached to the 9th Infantry Division, where he served during the Vietnam conflict. He achieved his Master Electrician certification and owned and operated Commercial Electric in Sedalia for many years, then worked as maintenance supervisor for EnerSys in Warrensburg until his retirement in 2003. Jim was a member of First United Methodist Church, Sedalia. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jim was a member of the Muddy Creek Trollers. Jim will always be remembered for being "hard but fair."
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by a daughter, Patti Fitzpatrick of Sedalia; two sons, Brian Kowalski of Sedalia and Steven Gregory (Tula) of Lincoln, MO; four grandchildren, Michael, Todd, Danielle, and Dustin; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra Dierks (Dan) of Sedalia; and a nephew, Mike Cuba.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two infant children.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Pastor Randy May officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
The burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Michael Hays, Sr., Todd Hays, Michael Hays, Jr., Christopher Hays, Drake Miller, and Dan Dierks.
Honorary bearers will be Glen Glidewell, Jim Bob Anderson, Buck Lynn, and Jim Walk.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Celebration Center in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
