James Allen Mullins, 84, of Sedalia, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, at E.W. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. He was born on March 7, 1939, in the family home in Saline County, MO, near Marshall Junction, the son of Robert Wylie Mullins and Mary Blanche (Gray) Mullins, who preceded him in death.
On June 30, 1961, at Mt. Herman Baptist Church, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Wise, who resides in the home. They were married for 61 years.
James went to Glennwood Grade School and Sweet Springs High School and Graduated from Hughesville High School in 1957. James started out working for Harold Goodson as a young boy. After high school, he started working at Town and Country Shoe Factory, Champlin Oil, Howard Quarry, Wise Brothers Implement, Earl Thomas Implement, Schroeder Implement, Whiteman Air Force Base, and Missouri Department of Transportation, where he retired in 2004 after 27 years.
He served on the Hughesville Town Board for 12 years and was a board member of the Northwest Schools in Hughesville, MO, for 15 years. In addition, he was very active at Bethel United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and on many other boards.
James was a faithful Christian man. He was Baptized in 1958 at Hughesville Baptist Church. He attended Mt. Herman Baptist Church and Bethel United Methodist Church for 40 years and became a member of the Celebration Center, First United Methodist Church in Sedalia.
He was a good man and always cared for his children and grandchildren. James and his wife, Ruth Ann, were foster parents for many years, caring for children in their home. This was a way to show God's love to children who needed to feel loved. What a blessing it was to raise these children.
After retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and most of all being with his children to watch his grandchildren play sports, whom he loved with all his heart.
Along with his wife, James is survived by four children, Michael Kristen Mullins of Hughesville, Tiffany Marie Mullins of Hughesville, Jennifer Lynn O'Connell (JohnPaul) of Sedalia, and Ashley Jean Wooster (Charly) of Sedalia; five grandchildren, Jonathen Matthew O'Connell, Jameson Riley O'Connell, Jordan Annesley O'Connell, Shaylin Marie Wooster, and Braylon James Wooster; two sisters, Mary Ellen Pace (Jim) of DeKalb, IL, and Lola Mae Hunter, of Sedalia; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Allene Phillips (Joe Avery), and a brother, Kenneth Charles Mullins (Arlene Bennet).
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Pastor Candace Fowler officiating.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Mt. Herman Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be JohnPaul O'Connell, Jonathen O'Connell, Charly Wooster, David Hunter, Charles Wise, and Eric Schroeder.
Honorary bearers will be Shaylin Wooster, Braylon Wooster, Jameson O'Connell, and Jordan O'Connell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Herman Cemetery Association in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
