Jackie Dean Howard, 81, of Stover, passed away, Wednesday, June 5, 2013. He was born on August 31, 1931, in Perkins, Missouri; a son of Charles O. Howard and Jessie F. Owdom.
On June 2, 1956 in Remsen, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Edna Mae Arens, who preceded him in death on December 11, 2003.
He was of the Catholic faith, baptized in 1956 in Remsen, Iowa and confirmed in 1960 in El Paso, Texas. Jackie served his country honorably in the US Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict as a Gunners Mate Second Class. He then transferred to the US Army for twenty two years working in Explosive Ordinance Disposal and served in Vietnam. He retired from the military as Sgt. First Class and Master EOD Technician in 1978. After retirement he was an Ordinance Technician at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. He loved fishing, hunting and was a museum volunteer at El Paso Museum of Archeology.
He is survived by one son, David Howard, of Warsaw, Virginia.
Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his five sisters; Maxine, Virginia, Ella, Dana and Bonnie, and four brothers; Ned, Bert, Billie and Charles.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
