Helen E. Ulmer, 92, of Sedalia, MO passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. She was born on February 24, 1926 in Osceola, MO, the daughter of Barnett Edward and Mary Kathryn (Simmons) Walker, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lester "Clay" Ulmer.
Helen enjoyed sewing and making lap quilts for the Bothwell Cancer Center, the Warrensburg Veteran's Home, and many family and friends. She was a long-time and faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church where she taught Bible School and volunteered in any ministry that needed her help. She enjoyed being with her church family. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. She was also a school teacher and later worked at Zephyr Manufacturing and Inter-State Processing. After her retirement she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and volunteering at Open Door and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by daughters Sharyn Cook, of Florence, MO, Kathi Glidewell (Roger), of Chatsworth, GA, and Jamie Daniel (Kevin), of Green Ridge, MO; brother Robert Walker (Ruth) of Hughesville, ten grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons Ronald and Donald Greer, son-in-law Cecil Cook, brothers Charles "Raymond" Walker and Barnett Walker, Jr, and sisters Bertha Patterson and Mary Stevenson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, April 6, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church, Sedalia, MO with Pastor Duane Duchesne, officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.
Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Benton County.
Pallbearers will be Donald E. Goodman, Kent Greer, Kevin Forbes, Kenny Cook, Justin Glidewell, and Matt Glidewell.
The honorary bearers will be Robert Walker, Kevin Daniel, Jared Walker, Dean Patterson, Roger Glidewell, and Greg Moore.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church or Crossroads Hospice in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
